17 March 2012 .... Bake a Cake ... PLEASE

As you may know Somerset are hosting the English National Schools Cross-country event on 17 March at Ilton a few miles south of Taunton , with nr 8000 athletes, officials and supporters expectedon the day. Many TAC members are already helping TAC with marshalling and other tasks, but we need many more folk to help - not least to BAKE  CAKES  - for our food tent; and/or help on the stall.

We need at least 1000 portions of cake / flapjacks / traybakes etc to sell and so far have only secured about 300 . Please - see your members e-letter you should have received by email from the secretary or contact Kay Hawkins (secretary)  or Jane Brown direct as soon as possible if you can help with baking a cake or two , or if you are free to help on the stall on the day.

For volunteering for the Club in general

Please do read on below, and download the fuller volunteer info letter and feedback form.

Thank you to our newcomers and to those of you who have been involved with the club for a number of years and continue to give your support in a variety of ways.

Vision

Taunton AC’s main aim is to increase its capacity and continue to raise standards in all areas of club activity. Whether that is working with our youngest members of the club (8 - 11 year olds) in providing a high quality introduction to the sport of athletics, developing thriving event specific groups or extending the opportunities available to adult members of the club we need needs dedicated and well trained volunteers to help us achieve this.

Coach development is central to us achieving this, but non-coaching volunteers play a valuable role in freeing up coaches to coach by taking on more of the behind the scenes work involved in running a thriving athletic club, as well as some of the roles at the chalk face, such as people to take on the role of club registrars at the weekly training sessions.

In order to achieve our goals of increased capacity & rising standards we aim to:

o        Increase the number of non – coaching volunteers in specific roles

o        Increase the number of coaches who can commit to regular & reliable level of involvement

o        Develop standards of coaching across the club through a more formal mentoring & coach development structure within the club for both existing & new coaches which will link with the Somerset Network and regional mentoring support programmes
