

The Club has a large and active Track & Field Section. Regular training sessions for age groups from Juniors to Veterans are overseen by qualified coaches at the Castle School track.
We are currently in Division 1 of the Southwest Athletics League, which organises a series of matches between all eight clubs in the Division from April to September each year. Many of our athletes also compete at numerous county, regional and national championships and Open Meets throughout the season.

SWAL Match 4 Sept 2011: Well done all who competed and supported TAC at Yeovil on 4th September - It was a great day with Taunton AC not only notching up our first win out of the 4 matches this season against the 6 other SW clubs in SWAL League Div 1, but moving us back up also to a very respectable 3rd overall in the League for the 2011 season. Outstanding individual performances on the day included 3 new SWAL records by TAC athletes - Cath Blew (U20W 3000m 9:28) , Blair Brown (U20M 5000m 15:48), Katie Cross (U15G Discus 34.36m) . Thanks to all team managers and other volunteers as well as coaches and athletes who assisted with SWAL this year. Provisional indivdual results for Match 4 click here.
July 17th SWIC - full official results not yet available - but re-check at SCAA link shortly. We understand Somerset came a very respectable second overall among all the Southwest counties competing. July 3rd - SWAL Match 3 :. Many congrats on a number of excellent individual performances (full Results available here - now include Track events) including wins in their respective age-groups - in Javelin :Robin Danahar & Charlie Granville & Josie Loxton, Shot Put: Robin Danaher & George Giles; 100m: Rosie Coles, George Giles; 200m: Abigail Barton & Elliot Scott; 1500m: Like Scott; HJ; Evie Grogan; LJ: Luke Reynolds However - with only quite few of our athletes attending TAC' s position in the league on the day was one of our lowest for a long time. A fuller team across all age groups will be needed at the last match on 4th September to assure our place in Division 1 of the SW Athletics League next year.
July 1/2 : Well done to all our Junior, Inter and Senior Schools age competitors who reached the entry standards and were selected to represent Somerset at the National English Schools Athletics Champs at Gateshead, where TAC members made up almost 1/2 of the 25 strong Somerset team. Full results are available here - including national bronze medals for Katie Cross (junior girls Discus 34.02m) and Josie Loxton. (junior girls Javelin 34.02) (No its not a typo - both achieved identical national standard peformances to the nearest centimeter in different events!)

SWAL – Match 1 : Sunday 17th April. Results for this first Match of the season are now available here . Taunton AC - with a much smaller team than normal - managed to just cling on to third place with a few points ahead of Exeter. Well done and thanks to all those who competed and helped on the day. Evie Grogan demonstrated her dedication to winter training is paying off with a 1.70m high jump at the combined South West & Midland Indoor Championships. Congratulations to Evie on becoming the South West Indoor Champion for 2011. Read more here.

9/10 July English Schools T&F Championship, Birmingham. Charlie Maclean, Izzy Jeffs and Robin Danahar win Gold at
National Schools , with Silvers for Ronnie Wells and Blair Brown. A further eight TAC members were selected to compete for Somerset at this prestigious event with many National Standard performances, and helped Somerset to have their best ever team performance to take the C -Counties Trophy . Past T&F NEWS & RESULTS:
Following the final Division 1 SWAL League Match on Sept. 6th, Taunton clinched the SWAL Championship for first time in the history of the club, finishing just one league point ahead of Cornwall AC for the season. Taunton AC needed to finish at least second in this last T&F match held at Exter arena, having won one and been placed second in two of the previous matches. A strong turn-out and some brilliant performance by our athletes helped TAC to finish a good second on the day to Cornwall ahead of last years winners Yeovil in third, and taking the overall 2009 Division 1 Trophy for Taunton. July'09 - Recent National Successes:
Massive Congrats to Hannah Taunton on winning the 1500m at the National Disability T&F Champs in Blackpool, with a PB of 5.29.
And to Blair Brown who finished 6th in the English Schools Champs (Inter-Boys) 1500m Steeplechase with new PB of 4m 33 sec. Full results link to T&F'2009 ESAA

July'09 - Taunton AC members win selection to National events:
Following their outstanding recent performances 5 members of the club were selected to represent Somerset Schools at the Aviva English Schools Track and Field Champs at the Don Valley Stadium in
Congratulations also to Hannah Taunton, who following trials in Bristol has been selected to run in the 1500m event for the Southwest team at the National Disability Championships in Blackpool the week-end of 4th and 5th July.

26 Mar 2009 : Somerset Schools AA held the third out of season event at end of March AT TAUNTON ATHLETICS TRACK . This third event coverred JUMPS , HURDLES AND DISTANCE events for ALL age groups from u13 to u20 inclusive; incl High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump (not u13), Sprint Hurdles, 600m and 1200m events. Oct'08: ATHLETE OF THE YEAR - congratulations to Charlie Maclean on being named as the junior male English Athletic's Athlete of the Year for Southwest England. Among his achievements this season were 2nd at English Schools Champs, 3rd in UK School Games, and 3rd in the Home Countries Schools International.
Sept'08: Taunton AC retain 4th place Overall in Division 1 of the South West Athletics League at Final Match in Exeter on 7 September 2008. - Report & ResultsJuly / Aug'08: TAC members 'medal' at English School's Champs. Izzy Jeffs and Robin Danahar each take gold in U17W javelin and U15B javelin. Charlie Maclean claims silver in U17M steeplechase - followed by further medals for Charlie and Izzy at International Schools and UK School Games. Read more
